New York: If You Stay At The Jane, Don't Expect to Have a Night in the Ballroom
Off limits come night time if youre a hotel guest
As you may have gathered from our review yesterday, we didnt exactly dig our stay at The Jane NYC. But what we lacked as regards a clean room and a pleasant environment, we told ourselves, we were gaining in street cred, as staying there would surely get us entry into the fabled Ballroom, which reopened in May.
What were we thinking? Of course theyre not going to let plebs who pay $89 for a room into One Of The Most Exclusive Spaces In Manhattan. We would ruin the hipster vibe if we dared enter, smelling of The Jane.
New York: Guess What Luxury NYC Hotel May Have Bed Bugs?
If you think that paying $400+ per night for a luxury room in a New York City hotel means you don't have to share the pillow with bedbugs, then you're wrong. Not to make you super paranoid, but it's the truth; with a rash of recent bedbug infestations in everything from flagship retail stores to entire office floors, there's no guarantee that the little blood suckers aren't also in your hotel sheets.
Pop singer Lauren Hildebrandt tells USA Today that she recently emerged from a stay at a "luxury hotel in New York City's Union Square neighborhood" with bites on her body and noweven though we've never heard of her until this incidentshe wants to
Santa Monica: Shutters on the Beach Makes a Cameo In New Thriller Read, The Human Bobby
In need of a good read this Labor Day Weekend? One of our VIP hotel reviewers (and disclosure, a close friend of HotelChatter), Gabe Rotter has just published his second book, The Human Bobby, and we're geeking out because a big hotel makes an appearance.
Since writing about books about hotels is one of our things, we decided to ask Gabe a few questions about his book and his own hotel habits. And awaaay we go!
Your book has a long section that takes place at Shutters on The Beach in Santa Monica. Why did you choose this particular hotel for the setting?
The Human Bobby is about a wealthy man's fall from

Free WiFi, Beer and Southwest Credits Can All Be Had at Four Points by Sheraton
Southwest Airlines dropped some big news today with their announcement of new routes out of Newark Airport in 2011 but us hotel geeks are rather excited about Southwest's new partnership with Four Points by Sheraton.
Previously, we've dug Four Points for their reasonable prices, free WiFi, localized beer selections and even the apple pie scents that once wafted through the lobbies (It's been replaced with an outdoorsy scent.)
But now when you stay at a Four Points hotel you will earn one Southwest Rapid Rewards credit per stay.
New York: W Hotels are Primping to Unveil 'Global Glam' During NY Fashion Week
Just because New York Fashion Week is moving from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center beginning this season doesn't mean that W Hotels will stop sponsoring it. For as many fashion weeks as we've known, the W Hotels have set up a full backstage VIP lounge, complete with free drinks, POP burgers, TVs screening the runway shows live, and previews of designer merchandise and new hotels. The lounge may be taking a break this year, but W Hotels is determined to make their impression.
For this next fashion week, which begins on Thursday, September 9, the W Hotels will again be rolling out a slew of new items for its Global Glam collection. However, they're going big
Liked The Chatwal? You Can Expect More of Them in The Future
Vikram Chatwal lives! The WSJ has an in-depth look at the hotel business of Vik and his father, Sant Singh Chatwal, who just opened his Chatwal Hotel the other week. You can see our tours of the hotel here and here.
From the article, we learn some rather interesting things like the genesis of Sant Singh's hotel business in America and his trips and falls along the way. We also learn Vikram has moved in across the street from the Soho Grand Hotel into a $5.4 million townhouse at Soho Mews. (pic of Vik's building.)
But the most surprising news is that aside from opening The Dream Downtown, the
Washington, D.C. : Use Your Hotel Key to Unlock Prizes at The Jefferson's Anniversary Party
To mark its one-year anniversary after a 2.5-year renovation, the Jefferson will be throwing a key party. Not those gross kinda key parties where swingers swap keys and partners. Instead, the hotel is selling antique keys for a contest to see who can unlock various prizes from the hotel.
On August 31 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., five locked boxes full of swag will be waiting to be unlocked in the lobby. People who have purchased keys will be invited to try their luck to see if they can open the boxes.
New York: A Hotel Rooftop Bar Minus The Scene: Glass Bar At Hotel Indigo
It was on our list of The Top 10 New Rooftop Hotel Bars in New York City and over the weekend it made our list of low-key spots for an evening beer. We're talking about Glass Bar at the Hotel Indigo Chelsea.
When it opened, we predicted that it could be 'a more affordable and low-key alternative to the more scene-tastic rooftop bars in the city'and that's just what we found when we dropped by around 6 p.m. on Saturday. In fact, when we first stepped off the elevator and approached the bar, we were the only drinkers in sight.
This was fine with us, but scenesters looking for a little companionship and conviviality may need

Beijing: The Opposite House Says It's Thyme For a Cocktail!
Who's thirsty? It's time for another installment of our Summer Cocktails series. All summer long we'll profile fun new summer drinks served at hotels around the world. Got one we should know about? Send us the recipe with a photo of the drink. Otherwise, enjoy and @reply us when you're wasted!
Man, are we going to miss Summer Fridays. It's our favorite part of the week, not only because, well duh, it's Friday, and duh, it's time for a cocktail or tenno, we're also going to miss them because oh, we do love making all these bad puns that seem to come free of charge with our Summer Cocktails.
New York: The Sweet Sight of Dessert At Wall & Water
After a long, leisurely dinner in one of the private dining rooms at Andaz Wall Street's Wall & Water last night, we couldn't even fathom the concept of dessert. We'd already sampled plates of charcuterie and cheeses, and feasted on Roasted Young Chicken with peas, fava beans and morels stew, Grilled Wild Striped Bass with broccoli raab and a delicious Grilled Skirt Steak with red onion, green tomato salad and baked sweet potato ("so much better than real potatoes," according to one person in our party.)
We know, right? Totally stuffed! But then we saw this vision in a row of ramekins. A dainty lineup of six different desserts which had us forgetting we were full in
Munich: A Room for the Night and a 'Dirndl' for Oktoberfest at Munich's Charles Hotel
Boobs. That's what the German Oktoberfest celebrations is all about, right? Wrong, but we're at least close. On September 18th, Munich will tap the first kegs to kick off the month-long festival of beer, brats, bretzeln (pretzels) and yesboobs too. You see, the Bavarian traditional costume for women is a Dirndl, a highly decorated peasant dress of sorts, which is typically specially made and heavy on the cleavage-baring.
If you're thinking of heading to Munich for Oktoberfest this year and you like the look of these Dirndls, the the Rocco Forte Collection property The Charles Hotel at the center of the city has a deal for you: their "Dressed for Oktoberfest" package.
New York: Is This It For Hotel Pennsylvania? Skyscraper Gets The Go Ahead
Is that the death knell for the Hotel Pennsylvania we hear? Yes, we know, we've braced for this before, but this latest turn of events sounds to us like the end is nigh: the City Council has approved Vornado Realty Trust's plans for a 1,200-foot office tower for the site.
As The New York Observer reports, a Vornado spokesman says the building would be an "outstanding addition to New York's iconic skyline" but many New Yorkers disagree. The loudest opposition is coming from Empire State Building owner Anthony Malkin, who worries about the new skyscraper stealing thunder from his own.
Paris: Another Paris Hotel Is Open, And It's Priced Tres Bien
Last week we were mulling over the new Hotel Athenée in Paris, this week our attentions are focused on another new property in la cité of light.
hLike the Athenée, the Marais Bastille is a new hotel opening in an old property of the same name (it used to be a Best Western). Its been decorated by Michel Jouannet, who also did the cute Villa Madame in Saint Germain, and from the website, its looking lovely bright primary colors mixed with white walls and outré art on the walls.
Atlanta: Boy Gets Sick After Finding Condom at Wyndham Garden Hotel in Atlanta
We know it's Thursday and you've probably had a rough week and hearing about the latest grossest thing found in a hotel room is not what you want to hear right now. But you are going to want to hear this story, if only to make sure that on your next hotel stay you triple-check that the room is clean.
A family staying at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Atlanta checked into the hotel late at night on Aug. 1 and noticed that the room didn't seem too clean. The AJC reports:
[Guest Carmen] Jones said she and her cousin checked into the 175 Piedmont Avenue hotel around 7 p.m. on July 31 after spending
San Juan: The Thompson Hotel San Juan Looks Pretty But Is Not Happening
A few years ago Thompson Hotels was rumored to be working on a Puerto Rico project with hotelier Jason Pomeranc slipping to Travel + Leisure that plans were in the works. But we haven't heard anything about this hotel for quite sometime. Until yesterday.
A reader emailed us about the renderings on the Studio Gaia website which we wrote up last March. (This is the same design firm where we found the renderings for Thompson Toronto as well.) So we decided we should probably check in on this hotel again.
Sadly, there's no good news here. The Thompson San Juan is not happening anytime soon according to our sources. There was a possibility
Baltimore: Fairfield Baltimore Offers Green Rooms for Labor Day Weekend
Eco-conscious travelers heading to Maryland over Labor Day weekend can bunk at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott - Baltimore Inner Harbor, the city's first green hotel.
The limited-service Fairfield Inns aren't exactly the most exciting of Marriott's brands. But the Baltimore outpost tries to make itself stand out from the ho-hum hotels by monopolizing on its building, converted from a brewery, and adding a bar, and by going green.
